Polly tics

I have been very quiet on my views on the current presidential 'race' in USA. This isn't due to ignorance or not caring, far from it but politics especially in America seem very much 'closed shop'. I have said before on posts here many times that 'If voting changed anything they would vote it illegal'. This seems particularly true with the present American two party system of 'democracy' and the shameful charade of the candidates promising 'change, change, change......'

I try very much to avoid too much television these days, I read as much as I can and try to source information from as many alternative sources as possible to get some idea of the 'real deal'. Now try as I might both candidates and their running mates' seem as dishonest, potentially corrupt, deceitful, racist, warmongering and generally as awful as the last lot. Hardly surprising really because if those that can't see their is a political agenda that doesn't serve the people, or America as a whole but purely benefits the elite by now really needs to get their head examined.

Now I could go on and state all the examples of doublespeak, lies and propaganda being spouted by both parties in this election campaign but it's hardly worth it, just open your eyes folks. So where does this leave us?. Well pretty feced in my humble opinion, if Bush was never impeached despite overwhelming evidence to suggest it should have happened I seriously doubt the American public have got the will or power to do much about it. Third party politics is something they have never had the privilege of, so much for a country that prides itself on 'Democracy' but is happy to install puppet governments in countries after they have had their war machine pound all over it.

Are we any better off in the UK?. No way, we are up the river without a paddle if America says jump, we say how high. Such is our 'special relationship' , talk about sleeping with the enemy....
The big difference is in the UK our political system hasn't reached the twisted corruption of the USA just yet, but is pretty damn close. We, just as the American population can do is choose to protest, but for how long?. We can refuse to vote. In the UK this may just work as the ballot boxes are opened and counted live, by many, many people. In America computerised balloting has meant an already corrupt system could just 'hide' the fact nobody voted. Slightly harder in the UK but it would take a huge mass action protest such as the 'ORANGE REVOLUTION' in the Ukraine but may still be possible. We also have despite the ridicule the 3rd party, liberal loonies perhaps but it does act as a balance and can get some laws watered down or stopped such as the raft of infringements on our civil liberties. We have a choice people and if public figures can issue a call to not vote to force action (ok ok Noel Edmond's is hardly much of a public figure!!!) but we COULD. America unfortunately CAN'T.
