A parochial prorogation....

As of today Boris has shown his true colors regarding what he has been up to since taking control of the Conservative party regarding Brexit negotiations. It has been very obvious from anyone paying attention to his statements to the media and those coming from the other EU member state leaders that there was limited (if any) meetings between the parties and the removal of the backstop as requested by Boris as a precondition of any deal was the fly in the ointment that he knew quite correctly would result in no deal.

So it appears that Boris has been seeking to leave with no deal. Boris has been setting out his stall for a general election rather than negotiate with the EU during the past few weeks. Various pledges on crime, NHS, taxes etc, the same things we hear and see in manifestos that are often broken promises when the elected take power.

To kick all of this off we have today's announcement of prorogation.

This is a hugely dangerous precedent to set in terms of the UK constitution. Boris has by requesting this from the Queen at this time essentially stifled any and all resistance from within Parliament to leaving the EU without a deal as any legislation to block this Oct 31st deadline becomes impossible to debate and vote on if Parliament isn't sitting. Talk about disarming your detractors...

This situation is dangerous as it means that if it goes ahead the UK democratic system of parliament appears defunct. A sitting PM can use this to block any dissent on a whim in future. The timing seems very calculated ( or perhaps rushed) based on the events of yesterday when the opposition parties convened to discuss legislative approaches to block a no deal Brexit.

So now there is in all likelihood going to be a vote of no confidence in Boris as PM issued by the leader of the opposition on behalf of all the parties. This will trigger a general election which Boris has been planning for and 'buttering up' the electorate. This will cause a stall on Brexit past the 31st of October to allow the election. The winner will then carry out whatever Brexit plan their party committed to. In essence the British people will be voting a second time for Brexit or not. The various parties will be electioneering on leave or remain policies.

The illusion of democracy has gone.... What we shouldn't forget is that Boris (and the Queen for that matter) have never been democratically elected by the UK population to run the country.
