You can stick that swab matey....

Wake up and smell the coffee Britain we are on a roller coaster ride of state observation and control with the latest 'oh so well thought out' plan to DNA profile everyone resident and visitor to the UK and store the DNA profile on a permanent database.

Well we all knew it was coming, schoolkids, new born children, dropping litter, failure to pay your TV licence or parking ticket, random stop and search. All 'legitimate' reasons to obtain your DNA at present but obviously we need to have everyone's to make crime easier to fight and 'prevent'. Luckily up to present I have avoided the DNA sample police similar I suspect to the 'THOUGHT POLICE' of the Orwellian society that we appear to have found ourselves not heading towards but already in and sinking fast.

The reasons for not profiling every person should be apparent to everyone. Not matter how secure this information could be used for many misuses and once on file it's there forever. If we are to fight crime fine, sample everyone CONVICTED of crime and leave it at that. OK once a criminal always a criminal mentality will creep in but surely that is preferable to the possibility of mistakes (however minimal). I foresee I terrible state of affairs where as a bastion of 'democracy' the UK pushes ahead with this giving the green light for other countries to do the same and maybe 'ethnic cleansing' will take a horrifying Nazi Germany style twist in say Darfor or Rwanda. Mind in this country will we end up with star badges like the Jews if we have a 'certain' DNA profile?. Will certain DNA profiles mean we are more likely to be 'criminal' in our behaviour and the government will use this in 'crime prevention'?. With the announcement today of the green light in the UK for human/animal crossbreed cloning of cellular material will our DNA be 'sold' or 'exploited' for other purposes.

All very alarming but altogether unsurprising, the Pandora's box was opened a while ago but it is down to the ethics of Genetics pioneers and the population as a whole as opposed to the government to dictate where we shall head with this and for what purpose. When they come knocking at my door swab in hand I'm leaving for a country that doesn't distrust or fear it's population and see them as individual potentially criminal profiles but rather unique individuals that can contribute in many ways to their country and society as a whole regardless of size, shape, colour or creed.
